Why does the wind blow?

Wind blows because the sun warms up different parts of the Earth unevenly. When air gets warm, it dances up, and cooler, heavier air rushes in to take its place, creating the wind we feel and see!

Wind is essentially air in motion, driven by differences in atmospheric pressure. These pressure differences are primarily caused by the uneven heating of the Earth's surface by the sun. Warmer air is less dense and rises, creating an area of lower pressure, while cooler air is denser and sinks, creating an area of higher pressure. Air then flows from high-pressure areas to low-pressure areas to equalize the pressure, which we experience as wind. This continuous cycle of heating, rising, cooling, and sinking air is known as convection.
